Jose Luis Acanda is a highly experienced martial arts instructor who has been training students for many years. He has been a four times national champion while playing for Cuba and also a Virginia state winner. One of the people who have a great influence in his life is Joaquin Palacious. He was his principal trainer in Cuba and gave him an advice that he remembers at every step of his life. Mr. Palacious advised him to always do right things and to help people who need support. As a kid, Jose considered Fidel Castro as his hero as that’s what he was taught to believe. However, when he grew up, he realized that every individual who takes care of his/her family and works hard to improve is a hero.
Jose Luis Acanda was trained by the Cuban Sports Federation in Olympic style tae kwon do, and was appointed as an instructor at a junior high school in the province of Pinar del Rio in Cuba. He also got the chance to work with Hector Lombard, who is a well-known UFC fighter. In the year 2004, Jose moved to the United States and began working in the US Tae Kwon Do College, Tysons Corner, VA, as a Tae Kwon Do Black Belt Instructor. In the next few years, he worked for Mountain Kim - Tysons Corner, VA (from October 2007 to May 2009); Lifetime Fitness - Centreville, VA(February 2005 to April 2007); Armani Exchange - Tysons Corner, VA (September 2013 to March 2014); and many other companies.
Jose Luis Acanda is passionate about martial arts and does not find anything more satisfying than it. However, there are a few other activities too that interest him, such as playing paintball, dancing, biking, camping, and running. He also likes to read different types of books. His favorite is “Rework”, which is a business book written by David Heinemeier Hansson & Jason Fried. Acanda highly recommends this book to all the aspiring entrepreneurs who want to start a business and needs better understanding of what it takes to establish oneself in the business world. Jose Acanda is very close to his family and likes to spend as much time with them as possible. Besides that, he also supports many charitable organizations as well as welfare committees that aim to make this world a better place.
